The mountains are ambivalent to your presence, and it is up to you to navigate the objective hazards. Storms, avalanches, and rockfall are enough to deal with, so why add to that by worrying whether you will get solid protection or a safe anchor at the end of your lead? Took them out, with head weights, and found them to be quite nice. Definitely an improvement in ice displacement over my stock picks.
I tried my friend's in Hyalite and immediately ordered some upon getting service leaving the canyon.
The sticks are noticeably better when compared side by side with newer stock picks on a nomic. After putting them through very high use on a 3 week trip I can safely say that they hold up better than the stock picks. They require a good bit of up keep with a file but there is more to file and they hold their sharpness once filed better than other picks. I like the weight of them with the hammer. It seems to be between that of the micro hammer + weight and a non-weighted nomic.
Such beautifully designed picks. Swing well. I think I'll have to get these for my other set of tools too!
I bought the master scratcher pick for my son. He lives in Bozeman and he requested this for Christmas. He says Beartooth Alpine makes a great product!

I have used these things on my biggest ascents in the Alaska Range and in the Alps and I literally can get good reliable gear and anchors in places where I previously had to go for dangerous run outs. These pitons are changing alpine mixed climbing from my perpective.
This picks are the best picks I have ever used. They drive into ice and clean really easily. Significantly less effort for good placements than other picks on the market. Will only be climbing ice with these picks from now on.
It will be late January until I get to use the picks, climbing with Ryan Griffiths in Hyalite and Cody. Cannot wait to use them as they look incredible.

Ordered the mixed picks for x dream. It was an adjustment from the stock camp picks. I found myself burying the pick the first day out. The next two days I lightened up my swings and found just as secure purchase. Kudos to Charlie and the gang, absolute gentleman. Stoked to see what’s on the horizon.
Just got my new picks! Look and feel sick. I ordered the pure ice version.... has a great weight and the engraving is a cool adder!! Can't wait to get out on them this winter. The T-shirts and stickers rock as well!!!
A few days out with Master Scratchers on my Hydras and they’ve already seen enough to make a stock pick turn sideways….but these things look like new. They climb great on rock and ice and show virtually no signs of wear even after early season surprise rock/turf sticks. I’m snagging some Ice Hawks too.

Got the scratchers out for their first day on Hallett’s Great Dihedral, where they were swung into rocks-disguised-as-turf more times than I want to admit, scratched on thin edges, torqued like crazy, and generally abused, and they still look basically brand new. The geometry felt shockingly secure on small edges and in constrictions, and they gave the right amount of flex in torques to get feedback on the tension. Excited to keep beating them up to test their long-term durability, but so far I am thoroughly impressed.
