Made for the Harshest Conditions
Free, Alpine, or Aid. Our Pitons do it ALL.
You Deserve Better.
Beartooth was started because we were tired of gear breaking in the mountains. We knew it could be done better. Whether you push hard in the alpine or are beginning your climbing journey, you deserve gear designed to perform in the most abusive environments. You deserve a company that stands behind its products. That's why our pitons are backed by a lifetime warranty.
Climb Safer, Climb Harder.
The mountains are ambivalent to your presence, and it is up to you to navigate the objective hazards. Storms, avalanches, and rockfall are enough to deal with, so why add to that by worrying whether you will get solid protection or a safe anchor at the end of your lead? We all want to climb safely and push climbing at our own levels, so do it with the superior tools.
Our pitons work where nothing else will. Better materials and design enable you to break through chossy seams and protect iced up cracks. They are your get-out-of-jail-free card, whether that's forging upwards or getting back down safely.
DO NOT CONFORM
Gear made by hand with better materials, better design, and entirely in the USA. As owners, Paul and I will always be at the forefront of Beartooth's testing process. We use it on our own climbs, our own FA's, and trust our own lives to it. If the gear doesn't stand up to our abuses, how could we expect it to stand up to yours? We CARE about YOUR feedback. Every review and email you share with us is read by Paul and me and seriously considered as we design future products. Thank you for being a part of Beartooth Alpine Equipment! - Charlie
Let customers speak for us
from 13 reviewsI am new to using beaks and pitons, and initially reached out to Beartooth with questions about their products -- I heard back from Charlie in less than 15 minutes of my message and had a great conversation about my current climbing and what Beartooth pitons best suited where I am. I've had limited use on the standard pitons/beaks so far, but look forward to putting them through their paces this winter mixed/ice season. The pitons have reduced my pucker factor by at least one logarithmic scale since I trust them so much. Wearing the Beartooth bear shirt has increased my climbing by a solid grade level. I'll be back for Beartooth picks and anything else they put out!
Shirt is awesome and fits great. Stickers rule and I am excited to test out the piton this weekend in the Selkirk Mountains!
More useful and versatile than other peckers and beaks out there. Definitely more durable it seems! Haven’t aided with them but they are great to pound in choss for some pro. Got the classic bot alpine set and it can still be considered ultralight in my book
I’ve used these heavily over the last couple months, along the with regular Beartooth piton, and they are definitely a huge upgrade over anything on the market. Anyone who does much alpine or traditional mixed climbing knows how essential beaks are, but the ones we’ve used for years all have their flaws: the Moses offerings are heavy and lack teeth for icy placements, the BDs bend distressingly easily and just don’t last, DMM’s don’t fit super thin cracks and are hard to clean. These solve all those problems: lighter, far more durable, a range of sizes to fit the thinnest cracks, and a design that makes them bite into icy and marginal seams, while remaining easy to clean. The only beaks I plan to buy for a long time!
Have yet to use the beaks but the Do Not Conform climber riding a bear shirt is absolutely epic and good quality. Will update once the beaks see some climbing.
Company is great to work with. Quality craftsmanship and professionalism.
I’ve been using beaks heavily for the last 10+ years. From A4 big walls, scary mixed, to hand placing them on Eldorado Canyon horror shows. I’ve whipped on them, bent them, broke them. These, by far, are the best I’ve ever used. Tough. Light. Durable. Simply can’t break them. These things are simply a must for every climber to have. Whether aid or mixed. I myself will be building a rack of 40 of these. Simply make the black diamond peckers looks like something from Toys R Us.
Great company with a refreshing mission! Love the shirts, comfortable and rad designs!!
Having been lucky enough to use the Beartooth and Beartooth Alpine pitons on a handful of first ascent missions in the Beartooth Mountains, I can honestly say that these have consistently been the most crucial piece of gear on our rack, and it hasn't been uncommon to place up to 8 per pitch and several in each thin/ difficult anchor. In fact we've had two bail anchors in difficult rock that only the Beartooths worked in.
I've been able to place these beaks in improbably tiny seams where other beaks would just bounce out. They place easier than any other beak I've used, just gets sucked into the rock. The thicker Beartooth fits in a wide variety of cracks where in the past you'd have to carry Lost Arrows, Knifeblades, etc. We've never had one "get fixed" in the rock, they've always come out, even using crappy ice tool hammers. I've aided off of one that came out by hand when unweighted, yet held me as I reached high for my next piece. And they're lighter and more durable than any other beaks on the market.
Unfortunately, I feel that these beaks shine in the most esoteric and difficult of situations, meaning that you will only realize their superiority if you use them to their fullest potential- compact, exploratory rock, hard aid, iced up cracks, etc. Don't take my word for it though, try them out for yourself! No other beak will ever be on my alpine rack. Excited to test these out on the Big Stone and splitter granite; I'm sure they will excel there too.
Cheers guys for making the high quality, performant, durable gear we want to use in the mountains.
I have personally seen these pins in action and nothing comes close when considering, strength, weight and durability.. too light to not always have on the rack when questing up suss terrain.
