Dane Steadman

There's No Such Thing as Too Much Power

Born and raised in the cauldron of Phoenix, Arizona, a young Dane never would have dreamed that climbing frozen mountains would become the driving force in his life. Dane found climbing after years of dedication to his first obsession: competitive powerlifting. He started lifting at age 11, began competing at 15, and from ages 17 and 18 set numerous state and national records. He went on to win two international championships against some of the strongest 165-pound men in the world, of all ages, and was the Arizona drug-free powerlifting champion of all weight and age groups in 2016. He spent years working as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for powerlifting, mixed martial arts, and folks wanting to improve their health. It didn’t take long for that obsession to shift, and before long he was rarely seen in gyms and was instead out climbing and experiencing the grandeur of mountains every free day.

Do What You Love

After graduating with a degree in geology from Arizona State University, Dane dove headlong down the climbing path, eventually moving to Cody, Wyoming, where he lives today and works as a mountain guide.  All styles of climbing bring Dane joy, but he is happiest swinging into icicles dripping from rock overhangs, or hanging from the side of a steep, cold, and beautiful mountain somewhere far away. Dane is genuine, understated, and humble; meeting him, you'd have no idea you were talking to one of the best alpinists in North America. Whether he's pushing boundaries around Cody, making fast repeats of Canadian test pieces, or pioneering first ascents around the world in the mountains of Alaska, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan, Dane's doing it at the highest level purely for his love of the mountains, adventure, and the partners he chooses, most often his best friend and climbing partner, Cody Winkler.
