Paul Shaughnessy

A Life of Craftsmanship

Introduced to the mountains by his father Dave at the age of 13, climbing has been part of Paul’s life for over 30 years. After graduating from Wyoming Tech, Paul pursued a career in automotive fabrication and design, eventually starting his own businesses, New Metal Coachworks and New Metal Kustomz. Paul's expertise and care for his craft helped lead his team to numerous awards for their creations, and his cars have been featured in publications across the globe. Paul's 17 year journey at the highest level of automotive design, invention, and metal work is the backbone of Beartooth's gear development.

A Dream Realized

Paul eventually returned home to Montana, settling in Belgrade with his wife and two children. He never lost his passion for the mountains and has made numerous ascents at high altitude, first ascents, and demanding repeats. While he continues automotive design today, he always wanted to merge his mountain passions with his craft. In April of 2023, that dream was realized on a month long trip to Canada with his now business partner, Charlie Faust. Dissatisfaction with gear on the market and dangerous snow conditions gave them ample time to think, and Beartooth Alpine Equipment was born. If you’re climbing with a piece of Beartooth gear, Paul’s hands examined, sharpened, and put love into it. At the end of the day, he wants to offer a well thought out product that climbers can have respect for and value having alongside them in the mountains.
